La Louve is situated in the medieval hilltop village of Bonnieux and owned by an American gardening advocate. Considered by many as "the quintessential Provencal garden," it harmoniously blends elements of modern garden design-informality, chance, naturalistic colors, and found objects-against a backdrop of the wild landscape of the Luberon Mountains. The different forms and shapes that provide its visual points of interest were created by Japanese-inspired pruning. Some of the most striking elements of its design include domes of iberis, germander and catnip and color accents of Feijowa sellowiana, dianthus and green santolina. In the featured recipe, ginger adds a special kick to Chef Marian's pickled beets.

Set against sweeping vistas of the French countryside, its strikingly beautiful landscape includes distinct garden rooms, lavender and wildflower meadows, and a rose garden with English, French and Italian varieties. Some of its most prized areas are the cutting garden designed by Gainey and a potager designed by Verey.
