Welcome to World Wide Web server of the Physics Department of the Université de Montréal.

A WORD FROM THE CHAIRMAN

My colleagues and I are very pleased to describe the opportunities for graduate studies in the Department of Physics at the Université de Montréal.

Our Physics Department has earned an excellent international reputation. We have more than forty professors with research interests in the following areas : astronomy and astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, plasma physics, particle physics, theoretical physics and computational physics. Many of our professors have been awarded prestigious grants and prizes : the Herzberg medal, the Killam grant, the Rutherford medal, the Steacie Prize, etc.

On this web site, you will first find an outline of the research interests and projects of the different groups in our Department. These overviews are followed by a short summary of the academic requirements for the master's degree and for the Ph.D.. We then discuss a number of other important matters, including financial information pertaining to graduate students, tuition fees, language requirements and housing in Montréal. You will also find a list of all the professors, along with their telephone numbers and electronic mail addresses.

In pursuing graduate studies at the Université de Montréal, you will not only be part of a dynamic Department at the cutting edge of research, but you will also live in a city whose intellectual and cultural environment is rich, diverse and stimulating. I invite you to visit us or to contact our professors. We will be happy to help you in any way we can.
