About Us

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

The Action Fund engages in educational and electoral activity, including legislative advocacy, voter education, and grassroots organizing. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund Political Action Committee (Planned Parenthood Federal PAC) is a non-partisan political action committee committed to supporting pro-choice, pro-family planning candidates for federal office.

Ninety years of providing and protecting health care has earned Planned Parenthood the country's trust and given us powerful name recognition. The numbers speak for themselves:

  • ONE IN FOUR American women has visited a Planned Parenthood affiliate health center in her lifetime.
  • Planned Parenthood has identified nearly FOUR MILLION supporters and housed their names in a national database.
  • Planned Parenthood provides health care and education to FIVE MILLION women, men, and teens in the United States and abroad every year.

No other grassroots organization in America has this kind of connection with women, men, and young people, and in 2008 the Planned Parenthood Action Fund will maximize these relationships.

  • We will turn our supporters into activists.
  • And we will deliver one million pro-choice voters to the polls in November 2008.

Gains in 2006

In November 2006, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, in collaboration with local Planned Parenthood organizations across the country, targeted races in the heartland of America, and this focused strategy paid off.

With wins in the gubernatorial races in Iowa, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin, and numerous state legislative gains across the region (including new pro-choice majorities in the Minnesota and Wisconsin state senates), we proved that mainstream candidates win across the heartland. In addition, we did not see a single loss of a pro-choice seat in Congress, a pro-choice governor, or a pro-choice majority legislature, and instead made significant gains on every level.

Outlook for 2008

Moving forward, we aim to prove once again that Main Street America supports mainstream values  from coast to coast and everywhere in between. The Planned Parenthood Action Fund's efforts will focus on purple “swing” states for maximum impact.

We intend to secure reproductive rights by

  • electing a pro-choice president
  • building a supermajority of pro-choice U.S. senators to ensure that the U.S. Supreme Court will safeguard the constitutional right to privacy, and expanding the pro-choice caucus in the U.S. House to advance a pro-prevention agenda
  • electing pro-choice allies in governors’ mansions and statehouses across the country
