This Web page will lead you through a series of steps that will let you obtain a copy of the LandView III (tm) free mapping program. LandView III is a Windows-based desktop mapping program that contains information about EPA-regulated sites, plus demographic data and street-level maps from the Bureau of the Census. The program runs under Windows 3.1 or 95, but not on the Web. If you want to use it, you will have to download a copy and install it on your Windows machine. For now, the Mac version of this program is not available through RTK NET.
You can only retrieve data and maps for one county at a time through this Web page. This version of LandView does not yet provide the ability to look at multiple downloaded counties at the same time. If you want to use LandView III for a larger geographic area, then you can buy it on CD from the U.S. Bureau of the Census. Each CD costs $99 and covers 1/10th of the U.S; there is also a summary CD for the entire country. For ordering information, call the Census Bureau at 301-457-4100 or try the LandView and other products Census page.
LandView II was a DOS-based version. It is no longer supported through RTK NET, and the files for LandView III are not fully compatible with LandView II.
First, you will need to create a directory or "folder" on your machine that you can install LandView III into. This can have any name, although LV3 should probably be used to simplify tech support later. You can create an empty directory or folder through either Windows or DOS. You should be able to do this without exiting your Web browser by minimizing it and then returning to it.
Note that if you want to look at multiple counties, you will have to install each in a separate directory. If this is the case, you should choose a directory or folder name that reflects the name of the county.
Next, you will have to specify which county's data you want. Please choose the state or territory first so we can provide you a list of available counties in that area.
