Canadians can expect to see the familiar nine-plane formation of the Canadian Forces Snowbirds for some years to come. Currently, the Department of National Defence (DND) plans to continue using the Tutor aircraft for the aerobatic team until the end of the 2006 show season, after which different aircraft may be required.

A number of options for continued Snowbirds operations after the 2006 air show season are being investigated by DND. They include flying the Tutors beyond 2006, replacing the Tutors with aircraft types already being used by the Canadian Forces and replacing the Tutors with other aircraft types.

A thorough study of all aspects of the Snowbirds' operations is also included in this options-analysis work. The results of the options analysis will be tabled within DND this year.
