ROM Formatter is available in two configurations:

  • ROM Formatter – full DVD-ROM authoring and Hybrid DVD Premastering engine

  • ROM Formatter with PlantDirect Tapeless Premastering – the unique capabilities of ROM Formatter enhanced with Sonic’s PlantDirect™ Premastering technology.

The minimum system requirements for ROM Formatter include:

  • Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 or Windows XP Pro
  • 800 MHz Pentium III or faster
  • 256 MB of system memory (RAM)
  • CD-ROM
  • Monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution
  • 10 MB of hard drive space for the ROM Formatter installation
  • Sufficient hard drive space for disc images

Note: Hard drives for disc images must be formatted with the NTFS file system to support files larger than 4 GB.

ROM Formatter supports the following premastering devices:

  • Pioneer DVR-S101
  • Pioneer DVR-S201
  • Quantum DLT 2000, DLT 4000, DLT 7000, and DLT 8000
  • Quantum DLT 1
  • Exabyte 8900

In order to correctly retain the resource forks of Macintosh files, it is necessary to network a Macintosh CPU to the Windows PC. For this purpose, Sonic recommends Windows 2000 Server (which includes Services for Macintosh), DAVE from Thursby Software or PC MacLan by Miramar Systems.
