I am an Expat living and working in Geneva for an international women's NGO. I was craving news about Canada and found your site. Having been away for nearly three years, I am amazed by how quickly I am losing touch with what's going on back home. This was my visit visit to your site and I will visit again!

I visited this site to find out about grants available for a women`s network that we are setting up at the radio station, in an attempt to get more women involved in radio and in producing shows and pieces on women to circulate across Canada. Thanks for the info and tune in to HERSAY on CKUT 90.3 f.m. Montreal, your transister radio!

I am an organization development specialist who is actively working on looking at Organization Effectiveness (OE) within Women Sector Organizations. My work to date has viewed Women Sector Organization Effectiveness (OE) through multiple perspectives. Through the lens of the feminist perspective and how this applies to the design and management of Women Sector Organizations, Through the lens of Management and Leadership (including glimpses of blurry boundaries and how the 'stuff' of women sector work leaks into professional interactions with colleagues and agency business) (the power of appropriating feminist languag as a methodology for derailing important organizational work--i.e. I'm being silenced, that is heirarchical, I am being disciplined because I am a lesbian, I am a woman of colour...) (The personal attack); trhough the lesn of democracy in the workplace:What Women Sector Organizations can learn from Social Sciences & Anthropological model of various organizational structures, designs, roles & responsibilities; Through the lens of Family Systems theory, Vicarious Tramatization and Group Therapy; Through the lens of how increased unionization is forcing women sector organizations to becoming more structured. I am looking for support for research & program development in this area & have found the status of women staff quite helpful in this. The proof will be in the pudding. Also I am looking for experienced OE feminist women who have a background in psychotherapy (& preferably some background in association management or women sector work). Would you like to start a dialogue. Thanks liz gildner Vancouver BC

On Jan. 21 my only sister was murdered by her husband of almost 10 years. She was only 39 years old and had two children, a girl, age 4 and a boy age 2. Just this past week my family and I had to endure the court system of BC. We were trying to get interm custody, child support and freeze all his money. This was a very trying experience and is only the tip of the iceburg, as his prelim-hearing is on June 2 and 3...and then the trial may not start till late 98 early 99. We believe his defence will be a combination of his medication (prozac), and the unbelivable provication defence. He is currently out on bail. I hope that, this web site, and by subscribing to the newsletter, my family and I can obtain information and help, during the tough times ahead. Any info or help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you grealyrk@islandnet.com

Terrific web site - I've found lots of information that will be useful for my university papers on women's issues. However, I have one complaint - your web site is impossible to find! It is not listed in Yahoo!, at least not under federal government departments. The public service web page linked me only to the publications page. Perhaps you could list this page with the major search engines and have a direct link listed in government directories. Other than that, though, good job and keep up the good work.

Good to see all the work done on areas that women are disadvantaged in. But GENDER EQUALITY would require you to look at men's areas of disadvantage (eg. low life expectancy, suicide, victims of violence, anti-father bias in court, etc). Sorry, you're not about gender equality, just women's advantage. Really disappointing to see. Please take your claim to GENDER EQUALITY off your page.

re pay equity I enjoy reading the commments on this site but find the comments on pay equity ironic. Why? 13 years ago the union ,PSAW ,representing clerical and secretarial workers(mostly women) filed a complaint for pay equity. They won the ruling but have not been able to settle with their largest employer THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.So the Federal Government is breaking its own law.The article I read quoted a Paul Armstrong, who represents the Gov't as saying that the workers were offered 43 cents on the dollar which seems too low to me.I request that the Federal Gov't settle this now as it destroys any credability of Hedy Fry's Dept. I am not a member of this union but I, as a taxpayer who is a woman find it inexcusable that my government is breaking it's own law. I will look forward to a quick resolution of this situation. Carol

Your site is very usefull and informative. I found your site while searching out information related to the National AIDS Strategy. I have read some of the material on the site and was particularly interested in the Consultation process. I would like to add a comment regarding this process. I believe I read that the Staus of Women would consult with women's organizations. I have been a strong advocate to include people who do not "belong" to organizations and would like to see you include women who do not necessarily use "services". I would also be interested in seeking your input into the National AIDS Strategy, as I think a strategy should include all government departments. I would be interested to know whether or not the Status of Women was consulted by Health Canada for input to the National AIDS Strategy.

As I am a scientist working in engineering related fields I just had to "check out" your Web Site. FYI: I am one of the first women to abtain a Ph. I came upon this site while reseaching material for inclusion in MARCO POLO World News -- A Multi-Cultural, English Language, Bi-Weekly Community Newspaper for British Columbia. As Managing Editor I was preparing an article about International Women's Day for inclusion in an upcoming issue. Working within the ethnic communities has been a real eye opener. Let's stand up for all women. It is a privilege to live in a country where women's equality is taken for granted. But if we do not insist on retaining and expanding those rights we will loose them as did the women in Afghanistan. I encourage every woman in Canada to write the United Nations and tell them we want affirmative action to "stop the stupidity!"

I am glad to receive any material on womens issues. I would love to be more active in any womens organization. If there are any other organizations in the area in which I live I would be delighted to recieve any information. "Learning is experience. All the rest is just information."-Albert Einstein

Great site! I'm doing a project on the status of women in traditionally male gov't agencies like the military and CSIS and this site has led to some interesting conclusions.

Hey, great site. I was able to access info on Women's History Month for our internal staff newsletter. Think I may test everyone at the YW with the quiz. How can we add our address on the e-mail list? I noticed the YWCA of/du Canada was on, but it would be great if you could also add local YWCA's. Also when we have our website up, how do we get that added too? Thanks!
