Key Dates
March 8, International Women's Day (IWD)
IWD was first marked in 1911 in many countries to protest women's working conditions. In 1977, the United Nations invited all member states to designate a day as International Women's Day and in most countries it is celebrated on March 8.
The federal theme for 1999 is "Going Strong - Celebrating Older Women".
If you, or your organization, are planning an International Women's Day event, let us know. Send us the details at webcoord@swc-cfc.gc.ca and we will post the information on our IWD events page.
