|
OTTAWA -- The Government will participate in this year's Lobby Day sponsored by the National Action Committee on the Status of Women (NAC), planned for June 8, 1998. The Government's participation was confirmed today by the Honourable Hedy Fry, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women).
Announcing the Government's participation, Dr. Fry said, "The federal government looks forward to meeting directly with women's groups in order to identify and discuss key issues facing women today. The Lobby Day provides the Government with an annual opportunity to discuss these issues with Canada's largest women's organization."
The Government will release its written response to questions submitted by NAC on June 4, 1998. This year the questions focus on a number of issues including health and mental health, older women and poverty, education and employment, globalization, racism and lesbian rights.
The Lobby Day meeting will be held in Room 200, West Block, Parliament Hill, between 11:35 a.m. and 12:35 p.m.
Copies of the Government responses will be available on request after June 8, 1998.
