A Field of Angels

On February 17, nearly 9,000 people gathered to flap their arms and legs on the grounds of the state capitol in Bismarck, North Dakota. They were trying to break the world record for making the most snow angels.

Guinness World Records created the category in 2002, after folks in North Dakota made 1,791 snow angels. Last year, Michigan topped that record with 3,784 angels.

In the crowd this year was Pauline Jaeger. She was celebrating her 99th birthday. This was her first snow angel. "It's fun," she said. "I feel just like a kid."

Guinness still has to confirm the numbers, and folks in Michigan are vowing to raise the stakes again. But 8,900 angels may be hard to top.
