PWGSC Publishes Schematic Designs for the Redevelopment Project of the Lorne Building site at 90 Elgin Street

May 2011

PWGSC is pleased to publish the schematic designs for the redevelopment of the 90 Elgin Street site.

These designs were presented and approved by the National Capital Commission (NCC) Board of Directors on May 19, 2011.

The 90 Elgin Street Redevelopment project will include approximately 60,000 m2 of office and ground floor retail space accessible from Elgin, Albert and Slater streets. The new 17-storey building has been designed and will be constructed to meet NCC approved urban design guidelines and target a LEED® Gold certification. The structure will be a beautiful addition to Ottawa’s Ceremonial Route.

The Great-West Life Assurance Company, the developer selected via the government’s electronic tendering system and a Request for Proposal, will redevelop the site and lease it to PWGSC for 25 years. The building will revert to the Crown at the end of this period.

The Government of Canada remains committed to creating jobs and stimulating both the national and the local economy. Approximately 625 jobs will be created over the next three and a half years as a result of this project.

This project will maintain the 75:25 ratio of office space in Ottawa and Gatineau.

Work on site began in early spring 2011. The construction phase will start in fall 2011. The building will be ready for occupancy at the end of 2014.
