UNESCO PRIZE FOR ARCHITECTURE

YEAR : 1969

ACTIVITY REWARDED : Architectural work inspired specifically by the moral aims of Unesco and which reward will be based on international contests between architectural students throughout the world organized by the International Union of Architects

PERIODICITY : Triennial

VALUE : $7000 and certificate

UNESCO PRIZE FOR THE TEACHING OF HUMAN RIGHTS

YEAR : 1978

ACTIVITY REWARDED : UNESCO honours an institution, an organization or an individual in recognition of a significant activity aimed at developing human rights

PERIODICITY : Bi-annual

VALUE : $4000 and a diploma until 1989 - $10000 and a diploma from 1990 (DG'S decision for 1990)

FUNDING SOURCE : UNESCO's follow-up to Resol. 3 [XXXIII] of the UN Commission on Human Rights concerning the celebration of the 3Oth Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.


UNESCO PRIZE FOR PEACE EDUCATION

YEAR : 1981

ACTIVITY REWARDED : Promotion of all forms of action designed to construct the defences of peace in the minds of men and to alert public opinion and mobilize the conscience of mankind in the cause of peace.

PERIODICITY : Annual

VALUE : Approx. $60,000 - the exact amount to be decided each year on the basis of the interest accruing from the fund

FUNDING SOURCE : US$1 million donated by the Japan Shipbuilding Industry Foundation


UNESCO AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICES TO PHYSICAL EDUCATION & SPORT

YEAR : 1987

ACTIVITY REWARDED : Award is granted in recognition of distinguished services tophysical education and sport and in conformity with the principles of UNESCO's International Charter for Physical Education and Sport

PERIODICITY : Bi-annual

VALUE : Diploma of honour and a special bronze medal

FUNDING SOURCE : Bureau of the Intergovernmental Committee for Physical Education and Sport


UNESCO PRIZE FOR LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE

YEAR : 1989

ACTIVITY REWARDED Awarded to a student in Landscape Architecture, who is the author of a work inspired specifically by the aims of UNESCO

PERIODICITY : Annual (on the occasion of the World Congress of IFLA)(INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTS)

FELIX HOUPHOUET-BOIGNY PEACE PRIZE

YEAR : 1991

ACTIVITY REWARDED : Intended to honour individuals, bodies or institutions that have made a significant contribution to promoting, seeking, safeguarding or maintaining peace through education, science and culture.

PERIODICITY :Annual coinciding with the year of the General Conference

VALUE : F.Frs.800,000 (interest earned on the capital of two thousand million CFA francs representing 40 million F.frs.) together with a gold medal and a peace diploma

FUNDING SOURCE : The Felix HouphouŽt-Boigny Foundation for Peace, Yamoussoukro, Ivory Coast
