Another storm targets Northwest

A potent storm will slam into the Northwest Coast Sunday and bring another round of very heavy rain to the region. The heaviest rain is expected over the west-facing slopes of the Washington and Oregon Cascades south into the Sierras. Up to 5 inches could fall in some locations with some flooding expected. Heavy snow will dump 6-12 inches of snowfall in the Cascades and Sierras before warmer air changes the snow to rain. Lighter rain and high elevation snow will spread east through the northern Rockies Sunday.

A developing storm will spread rain over the mid-Mississippi and Ohio Valleys south through the Gulf Coast states Sunday. Snow will spread over the northeastern Plains and extreme northern Michigan with generally 2-4 inches possible. Warmer air will limit the southward extent of the snowfall.
