Asian Pacific American Studies

The American Studies Program at the University of Virginia has a new minor in Asian Pacific American Studies.

Objectives of the Minor
The interdisciplinary minor will familiarize students with the following:

  1. Asian Pacific America, encompassing peoples from East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, and the Pacific Islands;
  2. the socio-historical and political-economic transnational and domestic American trends that impact Asian Pacific American populations (macro-level)
  3. community based and individually lived Asian Pacific American experiences (micro-level)
  4. cultural and textual production of and by Asian Pacific Americans, including but not limited to literature, film, visual and plastic arts, digital media, music, and performance
  5. a comparative basis for understanding American race relations
