Wild Cards - CCSO phonebook servers accept the usual Unix shell wild cards in queries. This can be useful when you are unsure about the spelling of a name. For example:

xxx@ - a ph alias followed by an '@' is taken as an abbreviation for alias=xxx. For example:

field=value - can be used to narrow searches refused as too broad with the error message Too many entries to print. For example:

However, since sites and users are largely free to modify fields, some trial-and-error may be needed. Click to generate a list of lookup fields defined by the server at directory.yale.edu.

!fields - will generate a brief list of the field names defined by the currently selected phone book server that can be used for field=value qualifications when doing a lookup.
