***PayPal Integration Update***

Since many of our sellers have asked for an easier way to offer PayPal as a payment option to their buyers, we will be integrating PayPal into the eBay.com platform over the next few weeks. Among the changes you will see are:

*Choice of PayPal as a payment option on the Sell Your Item form;
*Visible placement of the PayPal logo, when offered, on the View Item page;
*The ability to sort by listings that offer PayPal as a payment choice.

For a preview of these changes, click here.

Sellers will continue to have the option to use the forms of payment they prefer to accept. PayPal will be another option for sellers who wish to offer it.

These changes will be available for auction-style and fixed-price listings on eBay.com, and in the Parts & Accessories and Everything Else categories of eBay Motors, though not in the Vehicles categories. PayPal will be supported as a listing option on eBay Motors Vehicles over the next few months. We do not plan to support PayPal on eBay's real estate listings at this time. Globally, PayPal will be supported on eBay.co.uk over the next few weeks. eBay's other International sites may support PayPal as a payment option at a later date.

Billpoint will still be available as a payment option for registered Billpoint sellers until after the first of the year. In a few weeks, however, sellers will no longer be able to register for Billpoint. We will provide more information regarding the phase-out of the Billpoint service over the next few months.

We're committed to ensuring that the integration of PayPal into the eBay platform is as seamless for our members as possible. We will actively communicate the changes on this Announcement Board as they take place. We hope that these changes enhance your eBay experience.

eBay

***JavaScript Incompatibility***

Currently, the use of certain JavaScript that is incompatible with the eBay system or eBay policies is prohibited. As we announced last week, we are now disabling the use of the script "eval" as well.

Some third party listing and payment providers, which until recently included PayPal, use the "eval" script to add functions to eBay listings, including adding their logos in item descriptions. The script is also used to add messaging and other features to some listings. However, due to the security risks with this script, it is being added to the disabled JavaScript list.

We have worked with PayPal, and they no longer use this script. However, the blocking of this particular JavaScript may affect currently listed items with the PayPal logo, or those items where the PayPal logo was added to the listing description manually. If you are using an older PayPal logo, you should upgrade to the latest version available on the PayPal site.

The changes to JavaScript may impair certain third-party auction management tools. Please contact your listing tool software provider if you have any questions or concerns about whether these changes will impact your software.

The incompatible scripts are disabled on all eBay pages where text can be entered, including the Sell Your Item form, the About Me pages and certain other areas of the site. In addition, all JavaScript is disabled on the general chat boards.

This change affects Revise Your Item (if the original item description contains the JavaScript), item Relist and Sell Your Item if members continue to manually include this JavaScript in their item description.

eBay

Used in concert with Turbo Lister, our new free bulk listing tool, Selling Manager provides a complete system for selling on eBay.

Best of all, eBay Selling Manager will be easily accessed online, directly from the Selling tab of My eBay.

eBay Selling Manager will help to maximize your efficiency as a seller. Here are some of the key features and benefits you can expect:

·Greatly reduce the time you spend on buyer emails by using fully customizable email templates.
·View a snapshot of all your pending, active, and sold listings.
·Track all of your bidding and sales through payment, shipping and feedback.
·Print professional labels and invoices.
·Relist items in bulk.
·And more…!

eBay Selling Manager will be offered with a free 30-Day trial. After the trial period, there will be monthly subscription fee of $4.99.

To learn more about eBay Selling Manager, please click here.

To provide input on eBay Selling Manager, please email us at sellingmanager@ebay.com.

*Important Note for Seller's Assistant Basic users:

eBay Selling Manager will eventually replace Seller's Assistant Basic. However, Seller's Assistant Basic will continue to be available and fully supported until at least the Spring of 2003. We will communicate with subscribers of the Seller's Assistant Basic Program well in advance of the transition.

During this time, we will be evaluating and incorporating feedback on eBay Selling Manager. Also, to ease the transition, we will offer the capability to import your Seller's Assistant Basic collection files into eBay Turbo Lister, which will allow you to continue storing your item information and creating listings in bulk. For post-sales management, eBay Selling Manager will do everything Seller's Assistant Basic did and more.

We welcome your input and comments on eBay Selling Manager, and look forward to improving the tool with your feedback.

****Announcement for Sellers of Computers, Consumer Electronics, Cameras, and Musical Instruments****

Buyers have told eBay that they are interested in protecting their electronics and computer purchases with a warranty. To address buyer interests and to help sellers attract more buyers and bids, increase sales revenue and earn cash bonuses, eBay has teamed up with a third-party warranty company to allow sellers to offer optional warranties with their listings. This service will be free for sellers to offer and will be available in a few weeks.

There are no additional resources or costs required for you to participate. Simply insert cut-and-paste HTML coding available on a special page into your item descriptions and buyer emails to promote the warranty option. That's it! The third-party warranty company will handle all details related to the warranty purchase, fulfillment, servicing, and customer support.

Most new and used computers, peripherals, consumer electronics, cameras, and musical instruments will be eligible for coverage. If the product is used, it must be less than five years old.

Look for more information on the launch of the Warranty Program soon!

eBay treats your personal information with the utmost care, and our Privacy Policy is designed to protect you and your information. To protect yourself, remember that:

*eBay will never ask you for your private information, such as credit card information or your account password, in an email.

*eBay will never send you any request or solicitation from a non-eBay email account or provide a link outside of eBay for entering credit card or other private information.

*eBay will never ask you to download a file in an email.

If you are concerned about the authenticity of an email solicitation for personal information that suggests that it is from eBay, you should not provide personal information. ***Bid Retraction Form Enhancements***

The current Bid Retraction form requires the user to manually enter the explanation for retracting a bid. To make it easier for members to complete this form, we're introducing a pull down menu. This menu will allow members to quickly select one of the following valid reasons for the bid retraction:

*Entered wrong bid amount
*Seller changed the description of the item
*Cannot contact the seller

This change does not affect the Bid Retraction policy. Please refer to the Bid Retractions page for further information on this policy.

We hope that these changes will help to ensure a better trading experience for all eBay buyers and sellers.

***eBay Welcomes PayPal***

I am very happy to announce that eBay's acquisition of PayPal is complete. We are now working together with a common goal: to help buyers and sellers trade online.

A great many eBay buyers and sellers use PayPal to complete their transactions, and have told us that they would like to have PayPal integrated into the eBay site. Within the next few weeks, that will begin to happen. In the first phase of integration you will see PayPal featured on the Sell Your Item and View Item pages. Further integration will happen over the coming months. Our goal is to make trading on eBay faster, safer and more convenient for buyers and sellers alike.

eBay Payments by Billpoint will be available until after the first of the year. At that time we will work closely with Billpoint users to ensure a smooth transition during the phase-out process.

Stay tuned for more details about these changes over the next few weeks. Additional information can also be found at www.ebay.com/paypal.

We are pleased to be able to make PayPal simpler to use on eBay as so many of you have requested. We hope these changes will help you become even more successful in the future.

***Timing for Removal of Previous Sell Your Item Form***

Earlier this year, we announced that we would eventually remove the previous Sell Your Item form. More than 90% of sellers who use a Sell Your Item form have already switched to using Sell Your Item 2.0, and this number increases nearly every week.

We will remove the previous Sell Your Item form during the last week of December 2002 or early January 2003. We will give more information on timing closer to that date. At that time, the versions of Relist and Revise Your Item that corresponded with the old Sell Your Item form will also be removed. We strongly encourage sellers to upgrade to Sell Your Item 2.0 or another selling tool, such as eBay Turbo Lister, as soon as possible.

Reasons for this change include limitations with the previous Sell Your Item form that make it difficult to maintain, and the resources involved in maintaining and building new features for two Sell Your Item forms.

We do recognize that some sellers still have listing processes based on the previous Sell Your Item form. Because of this, we wanted to provide significant advance notice to help make this upgrade process as smooth and gradual as possible. Moreover, we wanted to wait until after the holiday season – a period that is the busiest of the year for many sellers – before removing the previous form.

For more information about the removal of the previous Sell Your Item form, please visit our FAQ page.

***Exit Promotions***

Over the past few months we've been testing exit promotions off the eBay Home Page. These promotions only appear to the small segment of users who come to the Home Page, then immediately exit the site. Based on the results of this program, and feedback from users, we'll be making two changes.

First, we will reduce the number of times a user can get these promotions from two times to one time per day. We will also expand these promotions to other select pages on the site, including category portal pages.

These promotions are designed only to show up if you enter one of the selected pages from outside eBay and then immediately exit the site. Additionally, users should only see the promotion once per day no matter which combination of selected pages they enter or exit.

The primary goal of these promotions is to offer compelling reasons for buyers to return to eBay. By showcasing great deals from eBay sellers, exit promotions allow a small but important segment of potential buyers to see offers they might otherwise miss. This expansion is intended to benefit both buyers and sellers alike by targeting those buyers who enter and leave the site without searching, bidding or buying.

***eBay Employee Trading Policy***

eBay Company employees must follow strict rules when buying and selling on eBay company websites. We have recently updated the employee trading policy. Among the guidelines employees must follow are:

·eBay Company employees must use a personal, non-Company email address to conduct business on eBay Company websites.

·When an eBay Company employee bids on or purchases an item, the employee must email the seller the link to the policy. In addition, when an eBay Company employee lists an item for sale, the eBay Company employee must include the link to the policy in their listing.

You can read the new policy here: Employee Trading Policy.

***Wholesale Lots***

We are pleased to announce some exciting changes that will help you conduct wholesale trade on eBay more easily than ever before. These changes are designed both for buyers looking for great deals on bulk merchandise, and for sellers with inventories that could be bundled and sold in large lots.

Here are some of the changes you can expect to see, beginning this week:

*"Wholesale Lots" portal page
Re-sellers looking to buy in bulk can now go right to the listings they want to see by clicking on the "Wholesale Lots" link on the eBay home page. This link takes you to our updated Wholesale Lots portal page, where you can find listings for Wholesale Lots in over 20 different categories.

*"Wholesale Lots" Category Structure:
eBay now offers a consistent way for you to find and list large lots of merchandise for resale across nearly all categories. Buyers looking for wholesale lots can now go directly to the relevant categories, without needing to search through thousands of single-item listings. Large lot sellers can now list in those categories with confidence that they are reaching the wholesale buyers they need. To find a complete list of the categories which now contain a "Wholesale Lots" sub-category, please visit our Wholesale Lots portal page.

We believe that these changes will help wholesale buyers and sellers find each other more efficiently, and we hope that this initiative improves your eBay experience.

***New Look for Toys, Hobbies, Crafts, Dolls and Bears***

The Toys, Hobbies, Crafts, Dolls, and Bears categories have a new look, with brand new portal pages designed for great promotion of items within these categories.

The new pages feature a sharp new look, more promotions for themes and brands, and greater cross merchandising links so that buyers and sellers can easily move between the Toys, Vintage Toys, Dolls & Bears, Hobbies, and Crafts pages to find everything they need.

In addition, we have moved a number of third level categories up to second level to increase access and visibility for those categories. The categories include Baby Items, Model Railroad, Models, Radio Control and more. This proposal was previewed for several weeks in July and August and incorporated changes suggested by you, the eBay community. If you would like to see all the changes in more detail, please refer back to the preview page here.

We're very excited about these new pages and look forward to the success they will bring buyers and sellers in all of these key categories.

***Introducing Second Chance Offer***

eBay's Personal Offer feature has been renamed Second Chance Offer.

Second Chance Offer is a feature that allows sellers to offer their item to a specific under-bidder if the original transaction cannot be completed, or if the seller has an identical item to sell. After receiving feedback from members of our community, we believe that this new identity better describes this feature.

The name change, along with new links to the feature across the site,
will appear over the next few days. Once the change has been made, sellers will be able to access the feature from the closed item
page, the seller's view of closed bid history, and the "Items I've
Sold" table in My eBay. Please note that this change may not be visible to all users until it is fully released to the site.

Second Chance Offer will be available to Motors sellers in the ways
described above, as well as in cases where the reserve price is not met (for Passenger Vehicles, Motorcycles or Other Vehicles categories). Second Chance Offer is accessible from the "Unsold Items" table in Motors My eBay.

Sellers do not pay an insertion fee for sending a Second Chance Offer, and only pay a Final Value Fee if the offer is accepted.

For more information on Second Chance Offer, click here.

We hope you'll give Second Chance Offer a try!

***Enhancements to Sell Your Item 2.0***

This week, we are pleased to introduce a number of enhancements and upgrades to the Sell Your Item 2.0 listing form. Here are some of the changes you can expect to see:

*There are now wider columns in the Help section, to minimize wrapping of text and reduce scrolling.

*When relisting, editing pictures will now submit any other edits you have done, helping to reduce the chance of losing data.

*We'll now return you to the Picture section if you change picture preferences.

*Design enhancements, including wider boxes in the Title, Picture URL and Gallery to make the form more user-friendly.

*If you host your own images and use these images in your item's description, you will now have the option to add a picture icon without using a URL in the picture URL box.

We hope that these changes help increase the effectiveness of Sell Your Item 2.0.

***Category Updates***

We've updated our categories based on feedback received from the eBay Community and from experts in the chosen fields. To provide input on eBay's categories, please click here.

-BUSINESS & INDUSTRIAL
We've made improvements to the Healthcare categories, making it easier for medical professionals to find the equipment and supplies they need. We've also made some changes to our policies regarding this area. For more information, visit the Healthcare Equipment and Supplies portal page.

-CLOTHING & ACCESSORIES
Are you into the latest mod styles? Or is Vintage & Retro more "you"? No matter what your look, you'll now find it all in Clothing & Accessories, because we've moved the Vintage Clothing categories to this area. Vintage covers everything from the Victorian era to the Disco Seventies – and as much as we hate to admit that something we wore to high school is now "vintage", these categories are a blast for browsing. Go ahead, spend some time on Memory Lane.

-COMPUTERS & OFFICE
To make shopping for Desktop and Laptop computers faster, we've added new categories for browsing by processor speed. You'll also find a new layout for Laptop Accessories and a brand new area devoted to Laptop Parts and Components.

-HOME & GARDEN
Quilt fans will now find both modern & vintage quilts together in Home & Garden. Look in the Bedding category to find one you like! And if you need an Area Rug, there's no need to shop in both Collectibles and in Home & Garden. Vintage Area Rugs now live side by side with Modern Rugs here in Home & Garden.

-SPORTS
Gotta have everything related to your favorite team? Then check out the expanded categories for Baseball, Basketball, Football & Hockey memorabilia. You'll be able to sell and shop for everything from bobbleheads to event programs. Go on now – build that collection!

Airsoft fans rejoice! You've now got your own area to trade equipment and accessories. We've also added some new categories in Hunting for Optics and Reloading.

-TOYS & HOBBIES
There are a couple of significant changes here. First, the former "Hobbies & Crafts" category is now "Crafting, Art Supplies". We’ve added some new areas for crafty folks to trade all the stuff they need. Second, we've moved the Hobby-related categories such as Model RR, Models, Radio Control, and Slot Cars to new homes directly under Toys & Hobbies. That's at least one fewer click between you and the stuff you want to buy or sell.

-EVERYTHING ELSE
Health & Beauty continues to be one of eBay's most active trading areas, and so we've been giving that whole section a beauty treatment. Look for lots of new categories in Body Care and in Makeup.

As always, you can move your item to another category by clicking here.

Thanks again to all our members who contributed to these trade-enhancing changes!

***New Feedback Star at 50***

As we announced last week, we are introducing a new Feedback star for members who reach a rating of 50. The new star will be blue and will identify members who have a Feedback rating of 50 to 99.

The new Feedback star will appear over the next few days. Please note that the new star may not be available on all pages of the site until it is fully released. We appreciate your patience as we introduce this new star.

This new level of Feedback recognition was developed with input from our community. We hope the new level will enhance your buying and selling experience on eBay.

eBay

***Enhanced PowerSeller Program***

This week, we are pleased to introduce the enhanced PowerSeller program. The new Program features will appear on the site over the next few days.

The Program will now have five levels: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum and Titanium. Existing members will notice enhanced program pages and a new PowerSeller icon next to their User ID. Current PowerSeller members will receive an email in a few days sharing details on the new program and their new membership levels. To learn more, please click here.

Since it may take a few days to complete the introduction of the new Program to the site, you may experience some irregularity when signing in to the PowerSeller portal pages. You may also notice that the new icon appears gradually in your listings. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause you, and thank you for your patience as we make these exciting changes. For further information, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page.

We hope the new and improved PowerSeller program will make your eBay experience even better.

Regards,
eBay
