bullet About PICMAN

The PICMAN catalogue contains records of the pictures, manuscripts, oral history and printed posters collections of the Mitchell Library, Sir William Dixson Library and Dixson Galleries.

PICMAN contains records for material catalogued since 1992. Materials catalogued prior to 1992 are listed in the card catalogues which can be consulted in the Mitchell Library Reading Room. To establish the full extent of the Library's holdings, you must check both PICMAN and the card catalogues - introductory guides are available on using the various Manuscript and Pictures catalogues.

Users of PICMAN should be aware that, in some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, seeing the names and/or images of deceased persons may cause sadness or distress, particularly to the relatives of these people.

The images on this database are provided for research purposes only and must not be reproduced without the express permission of the State Library of NSW.

Due to an upgrade of its air-conditioning system, the Library's Framed Picture Store will be closed from 21 October 2002 till Christmas 2002. It will not be possible to see works - principally framed paintings - held in this store during this period. The majority of the Library's picture collections will still be available for viewing.
