Sergeant, in Morphy Gleanings (p.17) gives +19-8? Spinrad gives 19.5-7.5 (from a website he considers unreliable) and 19-7 from the New York Times of 21 Oct. 1858. Edge (p.200), Feenstra Kuiper, Sarah's Morphy website and an article from the Scotsman of 26 Jan. 1860 (at Sarah's Morphy website) give +19-7=0. A letter by Edge dated 9 July 1858 gives +13-6=0 for Morphy, but perhaps more games were played after this date. Steinitz, in an 1896 interview with the Dutch newspaper Tijdschrift, quoted by Krabbé, also gives +13-6 but this may again be a partial score. Played sometime between Morphy's arrival in London in June and his departure for Paris after the Birmingham tournament at the end of August. |
