If you'd ask us in 2012 that the one topic of discussion on everyone's mind in 2021 would still be "where is Taylor Swift's red scarf?" and specifically, "who has it?" chances are no one would believe it. But here we are, nine years later, and the mystery is still bridging the gap between Swifties and experts alike, with investigations ongoing.

Popular celebrity-gossip account DeuxMoi revealed on Instagram that not only has the account verified the authenticity of the scarf (it does exist), but after receiving a tip, they made contact with her team. Meaning the scarf could be on its way back to her at this very moment.

Whether that is true or not, the conversations continued on Twitter, with legendary singer Dionne Warwick entering the chat.

"If that young man [Jake Gyllenhaal] has Taylor's scarf, he should return it," she says. "It does not belong to you. Box it up, and I will pay the cost of postage, Jake," she adds in a second tweet.

Between Warwick and the entire world searching for this scarf, it's bound to reach Taylor eventually. Right? It's unclear — but what is clear is that red scarfs are in higher demand than ever, and now's the time to get in on this season's most-talked-about accessory.

What does Taylor Swift's red scarf look like?

After investigating, Taylor's open-stitch scarf is categorically correct, falling under the red column, but it appears to be more of a berry or wine hue. The distinct shade is far darker and much deeper than the traditional tomato red tone but differentiates itself with enough lightness to stay clear from a burgundy label.

In short, we know all too well, this scarf, much like Taylor, will be impossible to replicate, and that's where we come in.

From chunky to cashmere styles, we found eight ready-to-wear red scarfs that not only mimic Taylor's missing version but are available as soon as today.

1. A designer red scarf

Logo lovers rejoice as this is the red scarf for you. Echoing the same deep red Taylor Swift prefers, this shade strikes a balance between dark and light and hits it out of the park with a cherry red coloring. In fact, it continues to impress, adding Coach's signature 'C' logo to 14% of the scarf; it's just the right amount of logo to make this scarf wearable regularly. Factor in the 100% wool material to keep us warm and consider us all sold.

2. A gender-neutral scarf

This gender-neutral Autumn Burgundy scarf from Old Navy is 67-inch long, a.k.a. large enough to fit any neck size (and wrap around more than once), plus the 100% cozy acrylic material keeps you warm and toasty. We're sure Taylor wouldn't be able to resist all 11 of the other shades and styles.

Add in the fringed edges and the fact that it's gender-neutral, and we can't help but agree with the reviewers who are "quite pleased" with this perfect piece.

3. A dip-dyed red scarf

Sure, this red scarf deters a bit from Taylor Swift's signature style, but can you blame us for including it? Available in a wine and midnight navy variation, this dip-dyed piece creates a striking ombré effect, and the 54-inch piece features a soft, lightweight cotton-and-wool blend. Perfect for everyday wear, we're partial to the perfectly portioned square silhouette that can fold up and fit into your bag when living life on the go.
