INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMICAL UNION
COMMISSION 27. VARIABLE STARS
(ETOILES VARIABLES)
The members of Commission 27 of the International Astronomical Union have a
broad range of interests in variable star research across the whole HR diagram.
It concerns both intrinsically and extrinsically variable stars with a large
variety in variability timescales. The commission's interests are connected with
both observational and theoretical aspects of variable star studies.
Variable stars not only offer us the opportunity to scrutinize basic physical
parameters of stars, such as masses, radii, temperatures, luminosities, ages and
chemical compositions, but they can also give deep insights into very different
detailed physical processes, such as internal rotation and convection,
diffusion, etc.
Commission 27 has more than 600 members. If you have a message that you want to
have distributed by e-mail to all the commission members with an electronic
address you are requested to contact the president about this.
