Requesting a New Observatory Code

Please use this link to view and test new observatory locations (using Google Maps API). Note at the moment the test page is for checking the location matches where you say your observatory is located. In future, we intend that this will turn into a submission request from users who wish to register an observatory with the MPC.

In the meantime, please follow this link to find information on how to currently obtain an observatory code.

In processing requests for new observatory codes, verifying the precise location of the observatory and evaluating the quality of test observations can be time-consuming. However, these steps are necessary to maintain the quality and integrity of the MPC data collection. The MPC endeavors to process all requests as time permits. We prioritize requests from observatories that will submit large volumes of observations of reliable quality or that will submit crucial, high quality observations.

Observation Disposition Search Page

Please use this link to view and test a new tool that will search our database for observations to determine whether they were received, processed, and their current statuses (published, pending, which object they were identified as, etc.). At present, this application will recognize only observations in 80-column format.
