"Ad categories on YouTube," which is in Ad Settings, can help you see fewer ads from certain categories, including:
- Alcohol
- Gambling
Google does not allow advertisers to personalize ads based on certain topics, like alcohol and gambling, but you may see ads about these things based on related interests. For example, advertisers who sell alcohol might want to show their ads to sports fans.
To see fewer ads from certain categories on YouTube
- Sign in to your Google Account
- Go to Ad Settings
- Under “Ad categories on YouTube,” click See fewer next to the ad category you’d like to see less
“Ad categories on YouTube” settings currently only apply when you are signed in to your Google Account and currently only affect ads shown on YouTube. Controls for these ad categories don’t appear in every location, so you may not see this feature.
We will make our best attempt to limit ads from the categories you’ve chosen, but in some cases these ads may still appear. For instance:
- You may still see alcohol, gambling, or images of these activities in an ad. For example: an airline ad featuring someone drinking a glass of champagne.
- You may still see alcohol or gambling ads if you search for one of those topics or if you watch a video related to these topics.
Start seeing ads from those categories again
- Sign in to your Google Account
- Go to Ad Settings
- Under “Ad categories on YouTube,” click Allow
