Files by Google works on Android version 5.0 and up. If you don’t have the app, you can download it from the Play Store.
Move or copy files through the browse tab
- On your Android device, open Files by Google
. Learn how to view your storage space.
- At the bottom, tap Browse
.
- Under "Categories," select a category.
- Find the file you want to move.
- If you can't find More
next to the files, tap List view
.
- To move one file:
- Tap More
.
- Tap Move to SD card or Copy to SD card.
- Tap More
- To move multiple files:
- Tap More
Select.
- Next to each file you want to move, check the circle.
- At the top, tap More
Move to or Copy to. You find a "Move to" or "Copy to" prompt.
- Tap SD card.
- Tap More
- To move one file:

- On your Android device, open Files by Google
. Learn how to view your storage space.
- At the bottom left, tap Clean
.
- On the "Move to SD Card" card, tap Select files.
- Select which files you would like to move.
- Tap Move to SD Card.
Troubleshooting: SD card undetected issue
If Files by Google doesn't show your SD card:
- On your device, open your Settings.
- Tap Device maintenance
Storage.
- Check if your SD card is recognized.
- If the SD card isn’t recognized in Settings: Remove and reinsert the SD card.
- If the SD card is recognized in Settings but not in Files by Google: The SD card may be formatted as internal storage. Learn how to format an SD card as a portable storage.
