You can use suggestions to type faster.
Important: Some of these steps work only on Android 7.0 and up. Learn how to check your Android version.
Note: Only supported languages will offer suggestions. See whether your language is supported.
- On your Android phone or tablet, install Gboard.
- Open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
- Tap where you can enter text.
- Type a word. At the top of the keyboard, you’ll see suggestions:
- If you see the word you want, tap it.
- If you don’t like a suggested word, touch and hold it, and then drag the word to Trash
.
Add words to your dictionary
- On your Android phone or tablet, open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
- Tap an area where you can enter text.
- Enter the word you want to add.
- Tap the word underlined in red.
- Tap Add to dictionary.
Note: Misspelled words might be corrected as you type. To undo any corrections that may have been made automatically, tap Backspace .
Change the kind of suggestions you get
You can choose the types of suggestions you see, like next words or emojis.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
- Tap where you can enter text.
- At the top of your keyboard, tap Open features menu

Turn on Smart Compose suggestions (US only, English only)
You can turn on inline suggestions to make sentences easier to complete and reduce typos.
- On your Android phone or tablet, open any app that you can type with, like Gmail or Keep.
- Tap an area where you can enter text.
- At the top of your keyboard, tap Open features menu

- Tap More

- In the “Suggestions” section, turn on Smart Compose.
