Important: Campus IDs are currently only supported for participating colleges and universities in the US and Canada. To find out if your college or university supports campus IDs with Google Pay, contact your campus card office.
You can add your campus ID card to your Android phone to securely access your residence hall. You can also use your campus ID with Google Pay to pay for things on campus such as dining, laundry, vending, books, and more.
To use your campus ID with Google Pay, you need:
- The latest version of the eAccounts app from Google Play
- A phone that runs Android Lollipop (5.0) or higher, with NFC turned on

The latest version of the Google Pay app (recommended)
Add your campus ID to Google Pay
- Sign in to your school's eAccount with your university network username and password.
- Tap Add to GPay.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
Access your campus ID
To access your campus ID after you add it to Google Pay:
- Open the Google Pay app
.
- At the bottom, tap Passes.
- Tap your campus ID.
Use your phone to access buildings and make payments
After you add your campus ID to Google Pay, you can use your phone instead of your physical ID card for building access and to pay for things around campus.
- Wake up your phone. You don't need to unlock it.
- Hold it to a card reader until you get a blue checkmark on your screen.
To turn on this setting:
- Go to Settings
.
- Tap Connected devices
Connection preferences
NFC.
- Turn on Require device unlock for NFC.
If you can’t find this option, you may need to update your phone to the latest version of Android.
View your balance or add money to your campus ID
To view and manage your account balance on your campus ID, use your school’s eAccount app.
Fix problems with your campus ID
Important: Steps may change based on your device and Android version. If the steps below don’t work, visit your device manufacturer’s help center.
You get an error message when you try to add your campus IDImportant: If your phone is rooted ("jailbroken"), runs a custom ROM, or has modified factory software, Google Pay won't work due to security risks.
Update your Google Play services
- On your Android phone or tablet, open Settings
.
- Tap Apps & notifications
See all apps.
- Scroll down and tap Google Play Services.
- Scroll down and tap App Details.
- Tap Update or Install. If those options aren't available, then your Google Play services are up to date.
Tip: If you can't find Google Play services, open Settings and, at the top, search for "Google Play services."
To make contactless payments, your phone must have NFC. To check if your phone has NFC, go to your Settings and search for "NFC" in the search bar at the top.
Check that your phone has NFC turned on:
- On your Android phone, open Settings
.
- Tap Connected devices
Connection preferences.
- Turn on NFC.
- Open the Google Pay app
.
- At the bottom, tap Passes.
- Tap your campus ID.
- In the top right, tap More
Remove card.
You want to transfer your campus ID to a new phone
Step 1: Remove your campus ID from your current phone
- Open the Google Pay app
.
- At the bottom, tap Passes.
- Tap your campus ID.
- In the top right, tap More
Remove card.
Step 2: Set up your campus ID on your new phone
- Sign in to your school's eAccounts with your university network username and password.
- Tap Add to GPay.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- On your new device, open the Google Pay app
.
- At the bottom, tap Passes.
- Tap your campus ID.
Your phone is lost or stolen
If your phone is lost or stolen, you should immediately remove your campus ID from Google Pay. After you find your device or get a new one, you can re-enable your campus ID.
