Pay

Pay awards to recognise cost of living increases are negotiated nationally through the Universities & Colleges Employers’ Association (UCEA) with recognised trade unions. The University has a defined pay and grading structure which is adjusted in line with the national pay award. Grades for individual jobs are determined through the application of the Higher Education Role Analysis scheme (HERA).

Pension

We operate two generous pension schemes – Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and the University of Bath Group Pension Plan (UoBGPP). These schemes include an ill-health provision, death in service, lump sum payment and an annual pension. All staff will be informed of their particular pension entitlement through their contract of employment. 

Work-Life Balance

We offer generous holiday entitlements which include the 8 statutory bank holidays as well as 5 further discretionary days.  For staff with family/caring responsibilities, we offer a whole package of family friendly policies which provide for flexible working, additional paid maternity and paternity leave, parental leave and leave for family emergencies.

World class sporting facilities are available on-site with subsidised access for staff. Our £30 million sports complex has a dedicated team of specialists and has become a renowned centre for sporting excellence used by some of the finest elite athletes in the country.

Contribution Pay

We operate a Contribution Pay scheme for recognising and rewarding staff for exceptional performance within their current grade. The arrangements aim to recognise and encourage sustained excellence, commitment and professionalism. A similar scheme also exists for professorial and senior professional staff at the University.

Childcare

The University runs its own on-site nursery called Westwood Nursery.  To support staff with childcare costs we offer a salary exchange childcare voucher scheme.

Transport

Only 2km from the centre of the City of Bath, there is subsidised parking available on site, but we are also served by good public transport and promote green transport issues including a cycle to work scheme.

Arts

The Edge Arts is an academic research centre commissioning new arts projects regionally and nationally, and offers training opportunities for artists, arts professionals, academics and educators.  The Edge Arts present symposia and publications with an emphasis on interdisciplinary practice.

Shops

There is a post office, and 2 supermarkets on campus.

Catering

A wide range of places to buy food or drink to either eat-in or take-away. 

Chaplaincy

This is both a place and a team of people, available to people of all faiths or none.

Nursery

Westwood Nursery is purpose-built and offers excellent childcare facilities from 6 months to school age.

Sports

World-class sporting facilties and the home of Team Bath. Our renowned £30 million Sports Training Village (STV) on campus houses sport, fitness, coaching, physio and sport science facilities all largely under one roof.

The STV has indoor and outdoor facilities to accommodate more than 50 sports and, as well as being a world-class multi-sport training environment, regularly hosts major international competitions such as the Fed Cup tennis and Modern Pentathlon European Championships.

We encourage all staff to learn, develop new skills and progress their careers throughout their employment with us. There is a variety of opportunities that will help you to enhance your performance in your current job, prepare for other positions within the University and to move on to other roles.

Induction and Probation

In your first few months, you will be supported to learn your job and the broader workings of the University, including induction to departmental systems, an 'Introduction to the University' day, and on-the-job training where appropriate.

Staff Development and Performance Review

The annual review scheme, which you undertake with your line manager, is at the heart of your professional development. From these meetings you will identify things you need to learn, and opportunities – within the University or outside – that will fulfil those needs. By planning in partnership with your manager, you will be encouraged to apply what you’ve learned back on the job.

Learning Opportunities

The University offers development events across a broad range of themes, from lunchtime briefing sessions to accredited programmes that may take many months to complete, and include close personal support. These are provided by both internal staff development teams and external experts, usually working to tightly-specified commissions so that the material is tailored to the University of Bath context. If you can’t find the right opportunity in your department or the University, it may be possible to attend courses outside.

The World Heritage City of Bath is one of the most interesting, elegant and vibrant cities in the UK. The city is known for its many beautiful buildings and the natural hot springs which gave the city its name.

From the historic Roman Baths to the contemporary Thermae Bath Spa, the city has a unique blend of architectural heritage and modern living.

Bath is home to several excellent museums and galleries, and hosts various festivals and events throughout the year.

Bath’s exceptional food and drink scene has gained the city a reputation as a delicious destination. There are over 150 restaurants, cafés and traditional pubs set within a great range of shopping from high street stores to small specialist shops.

Bath is a beautifully green city, with numerous parks and gardens to explore.

There is a comprehensive bus service throughout the city as well as good transport links to the region and beyond. The mainline railway means London is within easy reach and the nearby motorway connects Bath to the rest of the UK.

Bath has an excellent range of schools with a wide choice of secondary education. There are numerous parks, play areas and open spaces including the wonderful Royal Victoria Park, one of the first public parks in the country.

The city offers many enjoyable outdoor activities. You can take a boat trip on the River Avon, walk beside the Kennet and Avon Canal or make use of the superb sports facilities.

Bath is surrounded by magnificent countryside and interesting places. Stonehenge, Salisbury, Wells, Glastonbury, Cheddar Gorge, Oxford and Bristol are all within easy reach of Bath.
