Event description

Part I: Simultaneous Workshops (9h30 am to 12 pm)

In January 2012, the CRIBIQ, in collaboration with Ecole Polytechnique, CRIQ, CSPP, CTRI, SEREX and PAPTAC, organized a symposium on “Forest as a renewable source of chemicals” in Montreal that attracted more than 100 participants. Organized as a discussion on the perspectives and trends in forest chemicals, the aim was to identify possible actions to undertake for further development.

Building on last symposium, the purpose of this event is twofold. First, It will address issues associated with 3 main development and diversification paths of the forest industry identified during last symposium. Second, an innovative approach to the field will reside in integrating a life cycle assessment (LCA) perspective into each topic and workshop. The latter will be done with the help of the environmental impact assessment team at NRC Montreal lead by Pierre Yves Robidoux Ph.D., project manager in the Applied Ecotoxicology group directed by Geoffrey Sunahara, Ph.D.

The workshops will be organized around the following themes:

  1. Bioproducts, Biomaterials and Cellulosic derivatives
  2. Biomass fractionation processes
  3. Biofuels and energy products

Networking lunch (12 pm to 1 pm)

Following the workshops, attendees will be able to network during lunch time where a meal will be served in the cafeteria of the NRC, Montreal.

Part II: Topic Presentation and Netowrking session (1 pm to 4h pm)

Following the lunch, the networking event will start with a presentation will be given by Dr. Mariya Marinova, Co-director of the Research Unit on Energy Efficiency and Sustainable Development of the Forest Biorefinery (Polytechnique Montréal), on:
