The upcoming live-action “Barbie” movie continues to sound more and more intriguing as new details and casting additions have only added to questions about the project.
As we know, Greta Gerwig is directing from a script she co-wrote with Noah Baumbach. Margot Robbie stars as Barbie alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken along with a massive ensemble including America Ferrera, Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Kate McKinnon, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Will Ferrell, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emerald Fennell, Hari Nef, Ncuti Gatwa, Rhea Perlman, Scott Evans and Connor Swindells among others.
Now The New York Times’ Kyle Buchanan is reporting that according to his sources, the film features multiple incarnations of both Ken (Gosling, Liu, and Gatwa) and Barbie (Robbie, Rae, and Nef).
How this will be implemented isn’t clear, though “Shang-Chi” star Liu has spoken briefly about his work in the film with GQ and apparently his role involves a bunch of dancing.
Meanwhile The Irish Sun reports that singer Dua Lipa and Gerwig’s good luck charm Saoirse Ronan are rumored for roles in the film though it’s not clear which ones.
“Barbie” will open opposite Christopher Nolan’s all-star atomic bomb drama “Oppenheimer” on July 21st 2023.
