Tatum, Soderbergh Set Third “Magic Mike”

Tatum Soderbergh Set Third Magic Mike
Warner Bros. Pictures

Actor Channing Tatum, director Steven Soderbergh and writer Reid Carolin are re-teaming to slip on the g-string one last time.

Warner Bros. Pictures is moving forward with “Magic Mike’s Last Dance,” a third film in the series following the 2012 original and its 2015 sequel “Magic Mike XXL”. The first two films grossed nearly $300 million worldwide and has spawned a successful international stage show and an upcoming reality competition series.

Tatum will return as Mike Lane with Soderbergh directing and Carolin writing the script. Gregory Jacobs, who helmed “Magic Mike XXL,” will return as producer alongside Carolin, Nick Wechsler and Peter Kiernan. No word if any of the other franchise’s stars like Joe Manganiello or Matt Bomer will also return.

Tatum confirmed the news on social media, posting a photo of the script’s cover page. The plan is to premiere the new film exclusively on HBO Max, an odd choice considering the last film made $122 million in global box-office off a $15 million budget.
