Registration Dates: April 25, 2022 - May 27, 2022
Course Dates: May 31, 2022 - August 5, 2022
(with few classes going to August 15, 2022. Please see each class description for more details.)

Welcome to the Korean Language Program (KLP). Whether you are new to Korean language study or an advanced speaker, The Korea Society has a class for you! We offer nine-levels of study ranging from Beginning Korean I to Advanced Reading and Discussion. And our intermediate and advanced levels offer conversation courses that provide greater speaking practice. See full course descriptions below!

Our language classes are a great way to learn Korean in a small, online setting from university-affiliated and native-speaking instructors. Summer classes meet once a week via Zoom for 10 weeks and generally run for one hour and forty-five minutes for a total of 21 hours of instruction, with the exception of our Fast-track Beginning and Advanced courses which meet for 2 hours per week for 20 hours of instruction.

Our classes are geared to adult learners, college students or professionals who are 18 years of age or older at the time of the first class.

Additionally, the Society offers activities during the term for our language students at no additional cost. For example, we offer a bi-monthly K-chat for students who want extra speaking practice. For our advanced learners we host a Language Debate session focusing on a significant current topic. Debates are conducted entirely in Korean and moderated by a language instructor. You will receive further information about these opportunities after the beginning of the term.

Placement for New Students

For first-time students who wish to take Beginning Korean II or higher-level classes the Society has a two-step placement process: a placement exam followed by an oral interview. Beginners should take the Introductory Placement exam. Those interested in Intermediate or Advanced level courses should take the Intermediate Placement exam. This process ensures that you will register for the course most suitable for you.

Note: New students who want to enroll in Beginning Korean I or Fast-track Beginning Korean I do not need to take the Placement exam. You can proceed directly to registration. (Note: Fast-track Beginning Korean I is for individuals who do have some familiarity with the language. It is not for individuals who have had no exposure to Korean or the Hangul alphabet.)

You should allow up to 45 minutes for the exam. At the end of the exam, we ask you to provide convenient days and times for us to schedule an oral interview. At the conclusion of the oral interview, you will receive your course recommendation and can then register.

Please click on one of the links below to access the appropriate test.

2019 korean-language-classes icon   2019 korean-language-classes icon

Shortly after you complete and submit the exam, we will contact you to schedule your oral interview.
