The new Apple TV: What it gets right and wrong

Apple first tried to revolutionize television back in 2007 with its first-generation Apple TV. It never quite took off the way the company had hoped. Three years later, Apple introduced its second-generation microconsole to underwhelming sales. Two years after that, Apple tried again with its third-generation box, and although closer to what the company was originally aiming for, it still wasn't...

Praise the moon Bloodborne players will get some new content later this month, even if they don't pick up the game's expansion, The Old Hunters, Sony announced today. A patch that will apparently prep Bloodborne for The Old Hunters' arrival will add a new weapon, more cooperative NPCs and a feature called The League. Terminally ill Star Wars fan granted last wish to see The Force Awakens early

Star Wars director J.J. Abrams has given a dying fan his last wish: A chance to see The Force Awakens before he passes away. Daniel Fleetwood, a 32-year-old diehard Star Wars fan, was told in July that his rare form of connective tissue cancer known as spindle cell sarcoma would leave him with just two months to live. Talking to Houston's KPRC-TV earlier this week, Fleetwood said that based on "how progressive the disease had gotten in the past two months" he really didn't think he'd be able to make it to the Dec. 18 premiere date of the new movie. In an effort to make his dying wish come true, his wife Ashley took the campaign to Twitter, using the hashtag #forcefordaniel to bring attention to their situation. #forcefordaniel help my man get his last wish, to see a screening of...

Cathedral in the Clouds is pure, virtual art

Virtual reality is going to be a far more laid back experience than previous game-like platforms, which have traditionally relied heavily on physical engagement, progress and feedback. In VR a "game" can mean little more than a walk-through of a diorama. Seeing, watching and wandering are equally valid interactions as shooting, climbing and connecting. VR will be a platform for inhaling wonder and art. Beauty will be paramount to experience. This is why Tale of Tales' new project is so intriguing. The wife-and-husband team of Auriea Harvey and Michaël Samyn are planning Cathedral in the Clouds, a virtual place to view animated, 3D pieces inspired by the Western tradition of religious art. Religious ecstasy Based in Ghent, Belgium,  Harvey and Samyn live close to Sint-Baafs...

ESPN, Disney and ABC networks finally coming to PlayStation Vue

Sony will soon fill a major hole in the channel lineup for PlayStation Vue, its streaming pay-TV service: The company has signed an agreement with Disney and ESPN Media Networks to bring channels such as ESPN, ABC and the Disney Channel to Vue, the companies announced today. Since its launch in March, PlayStation Vue has offered three of the four major broadcast networks — CBS, Fox and NBC — and upward of 80 additional channels in its most expensive package. But Disney had been the lone holdout among the major media conglomerates that agreed to bring their networks to Vue, leaving the service without key channels such as ESPN and ABC Family. "The addition of Disney and ESPN's primetime programming and live marquee sports to our portfolio ensures subscribers will have access to the...

Battleborn delayed three months to May 2016

Battleborn, the upcoming shooter with MOBA elements from Gearbox Software, has been pushed back to May 3, 2016, publisher 2K Games announced today. That's a three-month delay; 2K Games had originally announced in August that it planned to launch Battleborn Feb. 9. That means the game will now launch outside of the current fiscal year of Take-Two Interactive, parent company of 2K Games; Take-Two's fiscal year ends March 31. In a quarterly earnings statement today, Take-Two still raised its financial guidance for the full 2016 fiscal year, although it noted that the increase is "partially offset" by moving Battleborn into the 2017 fiscal year (and by the previously announced delay of XCOM 2 from November to February). Gearbox launched closed beta testing for Battleborn on Oct. 29. For...

The Witcher is coming to theaters

The Witcher is getting the live-action treatment in a new film based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski, and it's getting some Hollywood help. Studio Platige Films announced that it has joined with the Sean Daniel Company, the producers of The Mummy franchise, among other films, to bring the series to theaters. Shooting for a 2017 release, the film takes after author Sapkowski's original short stories, as opposed to this year's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Oscar nominee Tomasz Baginski is slated to direct, with Thania St. John (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) working on the script. No star is attached to play the lead character Geralt yet. The press release also mentions that the film, which Platige first announced was in pre-production in August, is planned to be the first in what the studio...

Destiny's next update will ease your weapon parts troubles

Destiny is getting an update this month that will, among other things, relieve the Great Weapon Parts Shortage of 2015, developer Bungie announced today. Last month, Destiny update 2.0.1 reduced the amount of weapon parts that players received from dismantling certain guns. That change left many Guardians with a severe lack of weapon parts, a resource that's necessary to upgrade weapons. Bungie has heard your pleas: As of Destiny's 2.0.2 update, you'll be able to simply buy weapon parts from Banshee-44, the Gunsmith in the Tower, for plain ol' Glimmer. The 2.0.2 update is scheduled to be released this month, before Thanksgiving, and it will also include some previously announced tweaks to Crucible bounties and quests. In short, the changes will reduce the difficulty and time...

New full-length trailer for Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight arrives

Quentin Tarantino wants audiences to spend the holiday season with people they can't stand. At least, that’s according to the latest trailer for his upcoming film, The Hateful Eight. Set six to 12 years after the events of the Civil War, The Hateful Eight follows bounty hunter John Ruth (Kurt Russell) and fugitive Daisy Domergue (Jennifer Jason Leigh) as they race through Wyoming to get to the town of Red Rock where Domergue will be hanged. Before they can get there, though, they encounter a couple of strangers and wind up having to take shelter from a blizzard at a stagecoach stopover on a desolate mountain pass, where they encounter a few more questionable characters. Unlike the previous trailers, the new one hones in on Samuel L. Jackson's rival bounty hunter character, Major...
