Jamie Lynn Spears has a message for Britney’s critics as fans voice concern for pop star
Britney Spears' younger sister Jamie Lynn is defending the pop star, whose reported stay in a mental-health facility has concerned fans tweeting #FreeBritney.
In an effort to demonstrate the harassment Spears lives with on a daily basis, Jamie Lynn shared an old video clip to Instagram. In it, a dark-haired Britney is accompanied by Jamie Lynn as she walks along her street, surrounded by paparazzi and yelled at by a neighbor for bringing them there.
"10 years ago, who was there??" she captioned the oft-bleeped video. "I have been here long before anyone else, and I’ll be here long after. I love my sister with everything I have. So, anyone or anything that speaks to the contrary can GTFOH with all the comments about what you don’t understand. Do not come for me or the ones I love anymore."
Jamie Lynn also referenced an incident in the video in which Britney's female neighbor tells her, "Nobody wants you in this neighborhood, to which the younger Spears responded, "Well then move the (expletive) out."
"You can move the 'blank' outta here with all that, just like this other lady who was running her mouth," Jamie Lynn added in the caption.
She did not directly address her sister's fans, who held a #FreeBritney protest in Los Angeles on Monday with signs reading, "Britney's management is toxic" and "Truth will set her free." But the takeaway seems to be "don't talk about things you don't understand" and "let our family deal with it."
The #FreeBritney social media campaign was a fan response to reports from outlets like Entertainment Tonight and Variety saying the singer had entered a mental health treatment facility in mid-April. Fans are questioning whether Spears, who said she was taking time off for self-care, went there willingly or was forced to by her management and family.
Spears' stay at the clinic has further delayed the launches of her Domination residency in Las Vegas and her new album, both of which she postponed to help care for her ailing father Jamie, who had been hospitalized after suffering a ruptured colon.
